The Christian Brothers Academy lacrosse team, ranked No. 2 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, scored four straight goals to end the third quarter en route to a 9-6 Shore Conference Class A North victory over host Freehold Township on Monday afternoon.
The Colts (6-1, 6-0) took a 6-5 lead into the fourth quarter as senior attackman Matt McGuiness (one goal, three assists), senior midfielder Michael Convery, freshman atttackman Nick Casner and senior attackman Thomas Deiner each scored a goal during the pivotal third-quarter run. Casner finished with four goals, senior midfielder Thomas Palisi had two goals and junior goalie Evan Bynoe made seven saves.
Freehold Township senior attackman Stephen O’Brien and junior midfielder Billy Sasso each had two goals, and senior midfielder Mike Coppa had one goal and two assists. Junior midfielder John Poole had one goal and one assist and senior goalie Christopher Favale had eight saves.
ST. JOHN VIANNEY 10, BRICK 6: Senior attackman Pat Gribbon had three goals and three assists and senior attackman T.J. Coleman added two goals as the Lancers (6-1) defeated the Green Dragons (4-6) in a nondivisional game. Senior attackman Dan Louriero added one goal and three assists and sophomore goalie D.J. Soriano made 19 saves. Brick senior David Kearns had two goals and two assists and senior attackman Louie Ray had two goals. Junior midfielder Hunter Palmer added one goal and two assists and senior goalie Kyle Flores made 16 saves.
SOUTHERN 12, EASTERN 5: Junior attackman Dylan Jinks had six goals and four assists and junior Brendan Mullen had four goals as the No. 3 Rams (7-1) defeated the Vikings (4-5) in a nonconference game. Junior midfielder Chris Smith added one goal and two assists and junior goalie Brendan Lefanto made 15 saves.
BARNEGAT 10, ST. ROSE 5: Matt Manno scored all three of his goals in the third quarter and Ricky Gerena and Anthony Hause each added two goals and one assist for the No. 10 Bengals (7-0) in a nondivisional win over the Purple Roses (1-4). Ethan Tonnesen had one goal and three assists and Matt Grobelny made nine saves. St. Rose’s Matt Frost had two goals and Dean Mazur made 15 saves.
SHORE 10, MIDDLETOWN NORTH 1: Evan Jones had three goals and one assist and Doug Goldsmith had one goal and three assists as the Blue Devils (3-5) defeated the Lions (2-8) in a nondivisional game. Kurt Hendricksen also had three goals and Chris Johnsen added two goals. Middletown North’s Justin Russo had a goal in the second quarter.
IN GIRLS LACROSSE
MANASQUAN 14, ST. ROSE 7: A big second half from Manasquan led to a Class A Central win over St. Rose as attacker Jojo Reilly finished with four goals and three assists to lead the Warriors (5-1). Shae Cowley added three goals and an assist for Manasquan. The Warriors jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but the Purple Roses (3-3) fought back with five straight goals of their own, trailing by just one goal at halftime 6-5. Caroline Burns and Amy White both finished with a team-high three goals for the Purple Roses.
RED BANK CATHOLIC 15, SJ VIANNEY 5: Grace Fallon (one goal, six assists) broke the school record for career assists on the last goal scored by Maeve Cowley (three goals) as the Caseys (8-0) won a Class B North game. Fallon now has 227 career assists, breaking the previous record of 226 held by Lyndsey Demarco. Gianna DeMato had two goals for the Lancers (4-4).
RED BANK 18, LONG BRANCH 4: Murphy Davis finished with five goals and three assists to lead the Bucs to a Class B North win over the Green Wave. Davis broke the career assists record of 56 for Red Bank previously held by Ashley Edlehouse. Davis now has 59 career assists for the Bucs. Kelly Bonner also netted two goals along with an assist for Red Bank. Lexi Meyer finished with a team-high two goals for the Green Wave.
CENTRAL 10, PINELANDS 5: Amanda Carolan netted three goals to lead the Golden Eagles over the Wildcats in a Class B South game. Marianne Poinsett also added three goals and an assist for the Golden Eagles. Erica Deweever finished with a team-high three goals for the Wildcats.
BRICK MEMORIAL 9, TOMS RIVER EAST 8: Stephanie Corino (three goals, one assist) scored the game-winning goal with 5:19 left as the Mustangs (2-6) defeated the Raiders (3-3) in a Class A South game. Tori Sisbarro (two goals, one goal) scored back-to-back to goals with 9:05 and 6:14 left to tie the game at 8-8. Toms River East’s Nicole Faragalli had three goals and Meaghan Sullivan had two goals.
