Senior Brian Graham converted a penalty kick, and Chatham escaped Cliffside Park, 3-2 (4-3) in a NJSIAA North 2 Group III quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon. It is the Cougars’ second straight shootout victory.
Chatham seniors Graham Delaney, Billy Calvert and Rob Melchionna converted their PKs. Junior Henry Stusnick stopped the Cliffside Park goalkeeper on the sixth attempt, his second PK save.
Stusnik had been working on refining his shootout technique since the Cougars had lost to Randolph on PKs in the Morris County Tournament on Oct. 5. Chatham also won a shootout against Mendham in the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament.
Brian Graham and Harrison Cote scored in regulation for No. 2 Chatham, who will host the Newark East Side-Colonia winner on Monday.
“Sectional titles don’t come very easily,” Chatham coach Mark Maka said. “A lot of things change in the state tournament. Every game is your season. For our guys, it’s huge to continue. They want to keep playing for another day.”
Morristown 2, Ridgewood 0: Senior Oscar Garcia scored both goals in the second half. Alan Maldonado made three saves for his ninth shutout. The Colonials will host No. 14 Morris Knolls in a North 1 Group IV semifinal on Monday.

Delbarton 2, St. Joseph (Mont.) 0: Senior Scott Forbes made two saves for his 10th solo shutout. Brian Finn and Andrew Ford scored for the second-seeded Green Wave (17-2-1).
