Fourth-seeded Chenango Forks scored nine goals in the third quarter to beat top-seeded Johnson City 15-11 in a Section 4 Class C semifinal game at Johnson City.
Chenango Forks led 10-6 midway through the third quarter, then the Wildcats scored three goals in the span of a minute to cut the deficit to 10-9. Chenango Forks responded, scoring five goals in a row to extend its lead and hold off the hosts in the fourth.
The Blue Devils created turnovers and controlled 50 ground balls to hold back the Wildcats. Logan Hall led the Blue Devils’ offense with six goals and an assist, and Brandon Dutchel followed with five goals and an assist.
Maine-Endwell 15, Whitney Point 7: At Maine-Endwell, Justin Miller returned from a five-game absence and scored three goals, four assists and won seven faceoffs to propel the Spartans to the Class C championship game.
Justin Kopansky and Brock Post who each tallied four goals for Maine-Endwell (14-3), which scored four goals in the last 6 minutes, 56 seconds of the second quarter to turn a 3-2 lead into a 7-2 halftime advantage. They finished with 47 shots and led 15-4 with 1:17 remaining before Whitney Point tallied three goals.
The Spartans will attempt to win their first sectional championship when they play Chenango Forks at 4 p.m. Thursday at Vestal.
Lansing 10, Marathon 4: At Lansing, Brandon Mikula went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and teammate Owen Davis finished 2-for-2 with an RBI as sixth-seeded Lansing edged Marathon in the first round of the Class C sectionals. The Bobcats advance to play at No. 3 Tioga at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Unatego 8, Unadilla Valley 5: At Unatego, the Spartans scored three runs in the fifth inning to snap a 5-all tie en route to the Class C victory over Unadilla Valley. Tanner Winchester had a sacrifice fly and both Lucas DeJoy and Ethan Barber had RBI singles in the fifth inning for Unatego. Barber and Collin Comenda were both 2-for-4 for Unatego (13-8).
Union-Endicott 7, Owego 4: At Union-Endicott, Nick Yesensky totaled three RBIs and hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to push the Tigers ahead to win a nonleague game.
Deposit 8, Margaretville 3: At Deposit, Colby Hall hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to help the sixth-seeded Lumberjacks pull away in the first round of Class D sectionals.
Sidney 7, Oxford 2: At Sidney, pitcher Bill Kozak recorded a win for the seventh-seeded Warriors in a Class D sectionals game and at the plate finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Union-Endicott 13, Johnson City 0: At Johnson City, the Tigers scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a nonleague victory. Skyler Hoyt hit 4-for-5 with three doubles and three runs while Alexis Eastman posted two hits and three RBIs and Cassie Conrad posted two hits and two RBIs.
Class A Sectionals: At Tioga Hills, Vestal’s Parth Lalkiya beat Corning’s Alex Wang 6-3, 7-5 in the third-place match to advance to Friday’s state qualifier at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
Lalkiya, a senior and Vestal’s top singles player, led the Golden Bears to a tie for fourth with 22 points. Corning won the team title with 58 points with Artem Khrapko winning the singles championship and the doubles tandem of Alex Goforth and Gautham Sezhian capturing the doubles title.
