Devon McKercher scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Vestal girls lacrosse team cruised to an 18-4 victory over Ithaca in Saturday’s Section 4 matchup.
Tomasina Leska and Nicole Lyons registered three goals and three asissts apiece, Sarah Benyo added three goals and Emily Brennan made nine saves for the Golden Bears (11-3).
Leska also notched her 300th career point. The junior attack/midfielder started her varsity career as an eigth-grader, and has tallied 155 goals and 145 assists through four seasons. She verbally committed to play at Cornell last year as a sophomore.
Johnson City 12, Manlius Pebble Hill 10: At Manlius, Emily Russin tallied four goals with an assist and Gabby Ruspantini added a hat trick as the Wildcats (6-7) won ther non-league game.
Owego 10, Chenango Valley 7: At CV, Owego scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to prevail in Section 4 play. Pat Bilbrey and Justin Dueber tallied three goals each for the Indians and Nick Pert recorded two goals and an assist for the Warriors.
Maine-Endwell 14, Johnson City 7: At Johnson City, the Wildcats scored to make it 7-5 with 9:29 left in the third quarter, but M-E went on a 7-2 run in the third and fourth quarters to pull away. Brock Post led the Spartans with five goals and an assist and Vincent Vultaggio added a hat trick and an assist.
Johnson City 3, Seton Catholic Central 2: At JC, Logan Baburchak’s two-run single in the fifth inning propelled the Wildcats (3-2) to a Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory. Cam Gregory pitched a complete game on the mound for JC, and Tyler Krowiak and Connor Wilson each finished with two hits for the Saints (9-5).
Windsor 10, Owego 3: At Owego, Nate Wrighter finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs as Windsor won its STAC matchup. Wrighter pitched a complete-game on the mound, striking out six and getting the win.
Susquehanna Valley 9, Johnson City 8: At Johnson City, Matt Hassig hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to keep pace with the Wildcats. The Sabers’ winning run came in the seventh inning when Cody Pritchard hit a two-out single to send home Zac Knewasser.
Seton Catholic Central 6, Chenango Valley 2: Friday at CV, David George allowed only two hits in his six innings of work, helping the Saints to a conference victory. Teammate Connor McCormick went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Thomas A. Edison 8, Tioga 1: Elmira Heights, Molly Malanoski hit a three-run home run in the third inning to seal the Spartans’ IAC victory. Mckenzie Slaven, Leah Jones and Emma Straight combined for 13 strikeouts to slow the Tigers.
Chenango Forks 9, Unatego 0: At Unatego, Alexis Burge, Kylee Warner, Brooke Crowningshield and Danielle Darling each hit a single and double to send the Blue Devils to victory.
Track and Field
At White Plains, Kari Stromhaug vaulted 11 feet to earn third place finish in the pole vault at the Loucks Games. Maddie Beaulieu was third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (7:06.61).
