High School Roundup: Elliott scores 15 points to lead Chenango Valley girls in basketball

Hannah Elliott scored a game-high 15 points as Chenango Valley topped visiting Bainbridge-Guilford in a nonleague girls basketball game Friday night.

Elliott also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and made five steals.

Chenango Valley (7-2) led 14-6 after the first quarter, 25-12 at half and never trailed from there. Ashleigh Weir chipped in eight points for CV while Chelsea Henige had six assists.

Morgan Bullis led B-G with 10 points.

Norwich 92, Chenango Forks 28: Four players scored in double figures as the Purple Tornado cruised to a Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory.

Jenny Borfitz scored a game-high 19 points, Katelyn Brown added 14, Carin Kuhn 12 and Breanna Cashman 10.

Norwich (6-3) made eight 3-pointers, led 44-14 at half and 74-21 after three quarters.

Candor 58, Edison 22: At Candor, Sierra Szwec hit three 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lead the Indians. Candor pressed its way to a 19-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Boys basketball

Edison 63, Candor 30: Jacob Bahantka scored 16 points as Edison (1-7) earned their first victory of the season. The Crusaders used a 13-2 surge in the second quarter to take a 26-14 halftime advantage and led 44-23 after three quarters.

James Thompkins had eight points for Candor.

Hockey

Binghamton 3, Chenango Forks 1: At SUNY Broome, Cameron Dunn, Gene Segrue and Luke Miller all scored as the Patriots (7-4-1) topped Chenango Forks in a Broome County High School Hockey Association game.

Forks’ Jordan Shelepak scored in the first period to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 advantage but Binghamton answered with three unanswered goals. David Roberts made 18 saves for Binghamton while Adam Carman made 29 for forks.

Swimming

Owego 114, Union-Endicott 72: At Owego, Owego’s Mitch Phelps won the 200 free, 500 free and teamed with Dylan Richmond, Zach Zielinski and Ryan Wilson to win the 200-yard medley relay as the Indians won the Southern Tier Athletic Conference swim meet.
