High School Roundup: Franz leads Vestal boys basketball to victory against Greene

Kevin Franz scored 24 points, including 15 in the second half, leading Vestal over host Greene in a nonleague boys basketball game Monday night.

Behind Franz’s seven points, the Golden Bears broke open the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojans, 21-8.

“Franz starting hitting shots and it deflated us a bit,” Greene coach Rick Smith said. “We outrebounded vestal 43-33, but we just shot poorly.”

Brandon Davis scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Zach Wentlent also scored 15 points for Greene.

Girls basketball

Greene 57, Deposit 29: At Deposit, Jessica David led Greene with 15 points as the Trojans won a Midstate Athletic Conference game.

Kyle Papagelos and Haley Linkeroum led Deposit with nine points apiece.

Katie Carey scored nine points for Greene.

Groton 35, Tyburn Academy 30: At Groton, Ebony Marshall scored a game-high 11 points as the Indians won their first game of the year.

Groton led 20-15 at the break, then went on a 10-0 run. Tena Howe chipped in nine points for Groton (1-12).

Carly Ryan scored 10 points to lead Tyburn.
