Chris Talbott and Jason Czajkowski made several free throws in the final minutes of double overtime as the Freehold Township boys basketball team outlasted Colts Neck, 72-68, in a Class A North game.
During that critical stretch, Talbott went 3-for-4 from the line and Czajkowski went 2-for-2 from the line to finish out the scoring as the Patriots (11-6, 8-2) held off the Cougars (7-7, 6-5).
Colts Neck rallied from a 10 points down, 46-36, to force overtime and then double overtime. Talbott finished with 24 points with 20 coming in the second half and the overtimes combined and he also had five rebounds and five assists. Czajkowski finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Colts Neck’s Chris O’Reilly had 24 points with 22 coming in the second half and overtimes combined and Lloyd Daniels had 11 points.
MANASQUAN 61, MONMOUTH 43: Jack Fay had 13 of his game-high 20 points in the first half and Ryan Jensen finished with 13 points and eight rebounds and Jack Sheehan had four points and six assists as the Warriors (12-2, 10-1) defeated the Falcons (1-14, 0-11) in a Class A Central game. Monmouth’s Kyle Bradshaw had 15 points.
JACKSON MEMORIAL 62, TOMS RIVER NORTH 58: Junior guard Gino Palummo had 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and senior forward Eric Carter added eight of his 15 points in the first half as the Jaguars (13-5, 9-2) defeated the Mariners (9-9, 6-5) in a Class A South game. Toms River North junior forward Jordan Craig had 14 points and junior guard Ted Thelemaque had 13 points.
MARLBORO 64, MANALAPAN 55: Senior Justin Markowitz scored a career-high 26 points with 13 points coming in each half and he also went 5-for-5 from the foul line as the Mustangs (9-8, 5-6) defeated the Braves (5-10, 2-8) in Class A North game. Senior Mike Fasano added 10 points and four steals. Manalapan’s Matt Colella finished with 15 points.
MATER DEI 38, HENRY HUDSON 36: Sam Miles had 13 points while Tysaun White and Eddie Lewis each had 10 points. Henry Hudson’s Chris Coberg had 12 points.
MARLBORO 60, MANALAPAN 49: Haley Unger finished with a team-high 21 points leading the Mustangs (12-2, 8-2) over Braves (8-7, 3-6) in a Class A North game. Tatum Evans scored 18 and Nicole Shatksy also added 15 more for the the Mustangs. Along with her 21 points Unger also pulled down 22 rebounds. Catherine Traina finished with a team-high 14 points for the Braves, and Kelly McNulty added 10 more.
WALL 45, MATAWAN 36: Ellen Dougherty scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the first half, leading the Crimson Knights (13-5, 9-2) over the Huskies (9-7, 5-5) in a Class B North game.
ASBURY PARK 57, KEANSBURG 51: Porschia Witherspoon finished with a team-high 16 points leading the Bishops (5-9, 4-6), over the Titans (8-9, 4-6) in a Class B Central game. Destiny Smith also added 11 more points for the Bishops. Ashley Andalora finished with a team-high 20 points for the Titans, and Stephanie Walters also scored 18 points.
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 54, COLTS NECK 48: Sam Famulare finished with a game-high 20 points leading the Patriots (11-4, 6-3) over the Cougars (13-5, 5-5) in a Class A North game. Tori Wagner also scored 10 points for the Patriots.
MIDDLETOWN SOUTH 98, RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN: Melissa Segovia won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.87) and the 100 breast (1:12.86) and Annemarie Schnoor won the 50 free (25.71) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.55) as the fourth-seeded Eagles (6-2) defeated the fifth-seeded Bulldogs in first-round NJSIAA Central Group B action.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s Julie Bland won the 200 individual medley (2:21.10) and the 500 freestyle (5:22.32). Teammate Caitlin Harper won the 100 butterfly (1:06.45).
TOMS RIVER NORTH 97, JACKSON MEM. 73: The fourth-seeded Mariners (8-0) ousted the fifth-seeded Jaguars (9-2) in first-round Central Group A action.
North freshman Marianne Molloy won the 100 (57.56) and 500 freestyles (5:44.64) for the Mariners.
MANASQUAN 102, HOLMDEL 68: Jake Hegna won two events to lead the third-seeded Warriors (10-1) past the sixth-seeded Hornets (6-3) in Central Group B first-round action.
Hegna captured the 200 individual medley (2:22.95) and the 100 freestyle (56.94). Holmdel senior Ryan Fredericks took the 50 freestyle (26.28) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.34).
Freehold’s Christina Stabile and Julia Orrico will each play soccer at The College of New Jersey.
