Nick Neferis and Shane Majewski combined on four goals in the second quarter as the Johnson City boys lacrosse team beat host Owego, 19-12, in a Section 4 Conference game Thursday.
Chris Chanetsky made 11 saves for JC.
Neferis lit up the Wildcats’ offense with eight total goals and three assists, while Majewski and Josh Bradford each scored hat tricks.
Elmira 8, Union-Endicott 5: At Elmira, the Express scored on two man-up opportunities in the final quarter, outscoring the Tigers 5-1 to seal the Section 4 victory.
Binghamton 15, Newburgh 4: At Newburgh, Ben Stallman scored four goals, added two assists, and won 11 faecoffs, helping the Patriots cruise to a nonleague victory. Stavros Zervos added four goals and an assist, and Thomas Drapier made 15 saves for Binghamton (4-4).
Vestal 7, Maine-Endwell 0: At M-E, Vestal’s Nick Wegmann and Mike Osinski combined to shut out the Spartans in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference matchup.
Wegmann pitched six innings, striking out seven and walking none. Wegmann went 2-for-4 with an RBI at, and Jake Spellane was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Vestal, which orchestrated a six-hit, six-run third inning to take control.
Kyle Ballmer went 2-for-3 for M-E.
Cortland 7, Maine-Endwell 4: At M-E, Drew Gallagher went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, but the Spartans dropped their second game of the day, falling to Cortland in a nonleague tilt.
Chenango Forks 8, Chenango Valley 3: At CF, Forks’ Josh Maus hit a home run, and Mike Bubniak pitched a complete game in a STAC victory.
Corning 12, Penfield 1: At Myrtle Beach, Zach Sullivan drove in three runs as the Hawks concluded play at the Mingle Bay Classic. Corning (4-1) went 4-0 in the tournament.
Waverly 3, Susquehanna Valley 1: At SV, Matt Merrell pitched four innings, taking the loss for SV (0-3).
Collin Traub pitched a complete game and Brendyn Stillman went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Waverly (3-1)
Union-Endicott 14, Elmira 6: At U-E, the Tigers went on a 10-1 run to close the first half in the Section 4 game. Kayla Prosinski led U-E (2-7) with six goals and two assists, and Madison Temple added five goals and an assist.
Union-Endicott 3, Binghamton 1: At Union-Endicott, Marissa Parsons hit a two-run single in the third inning to give the Tigers the lead. Karleigh Eaton recorded 12 strikeouts for U-E.
Horseheads 18, Ithaca 0: At Ithaca, Jessica Rutherford’s 3-for-3 outing featured two home runs and three RBIs. She scored four runs, stole four bases and walked twice. Jenna Richmond pitched a three-hitter, striking out six for the Blue Raiders (2-2).
Whitney Point 20, Trumansburg 1: At Whitney Point, Courtney James pitched a five-inning one-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Boys track and field
Spring Break Invite: At Binghamton, Vestal won the 11-team event with 104 points. Vestal’s Mike Egotanda set a pair of meet records in the long jump (22 feet, 4.75 inches) and triple jump (44 feet, 2.25 inches) and was the meet MVP.
Girls track and field
Spring Break Invite: At Binghamton, the host Patriots came in first with 81 points. Binghamton’s Alexis Daniels took MVP honors after setting meet records in the shot put (36 feet, 9 inches) and discus (115 feet, 9 inches).
The Patriots relay team of Nicole Leo, Madeeah Ornachak, Monique Avilla and Genevieve Brewster set a meet record in the sprint medley relay, finishing in 4:30.48
