HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Marlboro boys basketball defeats Colts Neck

Junior center Matt Ringel scored a game-high 15 points and junior guard George Elghoul added 11 to lead the Marlboro boys basketball team past Colts Neck 45-40 in Shore Conference Class A North on Friday night.

Ringel and Elghoul scored eight points each in the fourth quarter for the Mustangs (7-8, 3-6). The winners entered the final eight minutes ahead 27-24 and outscored the Cougars 18-16.

Ringel and Elghoul picked off eight rebounds apiece on the night. Sophomores Lloyd Daniels and Tom O’Reilly led the Cougars (7-6, 6-4) with 11 points each.

MANASQUAN 72, RUMSON 63: Senior guard Jack Fay’s 20 points led the Warriors (10-2, 8-1) past the Bulldogs (8-6, 3-4) in Class A Central.

Fay scored 13 first-half points, including eight in the first quarter, as the winners opened a 36-23 lead. Sophomore guard Jack Sheehan added 14 points and seven assists. Junior forward Aiden McMenaman contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

OCEAN 49, WALL 46: Sophomore guard RuQuan Dean’s halfcourt shot beat the overtime buzzer, giving the Spartans (5-8, 2-5) a Class B North win over the Crimson Knights (6-8, 1-6).

Wall’s Ryan Janeczek netted a trey with 4.2 seconds left in overtime before Dean connected.

BRICK 72, BARNEGAT 66: Junior forward Brian Oehme’s 26 points, 13 rebounds and three steals powered the Green Dragons (1-4) past the Bengals 0-14) in non-divisional action.

Oehme erupted for 20 first-half points, propelling Brick in front 39-22. Junior guard Greg Buono added 12 points. Senior guard Brian Gallagher contributed 11 assists and four steals.

Junior forward Kyle Morris led the Bengals with 24 points, including 19 in the second half.

FREEHOLD TWP. 75, HOWELL 50: Placing three scorers in double figures, the Patriots (10-5, 7-1) trimmed the Rebels (4-11, 2-7) in Class A North.

Junior guard Jason Czajkowski scored 15 and added four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Junior guard Tyree Wilson netted 12 and senior forward-guard Chris Talbott added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Czajkowski scored nine and Wilson netted 11 in a 31-14 third-quarter outburst, sending the Patriots in front 62-37.

HENRY HUDSON 57, ASBURY PARK 49: Senior forward-center Jake Link scored 17, senior guard-forward Jaxon Terrell netted 16 and sophomore guard Tom Defilippo added 14 for the Admirals (6-6, 4-5) in their Class B Central win over the Blue Bishops (1-11, 1-9).

The Admirals sped to a 30-19 first-half lead as Link pumped in nine points. Terrell put home nine in a 21-4 second-quarter avalanche. Senior forward Paul Bacon led the Blue Bishops with 16 points.

Girls basketball

TR SOUTH 59, MANCHESTER 50: Victoria Alvarez shot 12-for-13 from the foul line and scored 31 point to lead the Indians to the win over the Hawks in a nondivisional game.

Toms River South erased a 13-10 deficit with a 21-10 showing in the second quarter.

Anissa Fucci led Manchester with 22 points. She had four 3-pointers.

TR EAST 45, BRICK MEMORIAL 43: Amanda Kennedy scored 13 points to lead the Raiders (7-5) to the over the Mustangs (8-5) in a Class A South game.

Toms River East outscored Brick Memorial, 6-4, in the extra session.

Lauren Lamastra led Brick Memorial with 13 points.

WALL 54, OCEAN 32: Ellen Dougherty scored her 1000th career point in the third quarter leading the Crimson Knights over the Spartans in a Class B North game.

Dougherty needed 22 points for 1000, and finished with a team-high 23 points for the Crimson Knights.

ASBURY PARK 49, HENRY HUDSON 31: Porschia Witherspoon scored 20 points, had 10 rebounds and two steals and Destiny Smith added 10 points, 18 rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal as the Blue Bishops defeated the Admirals in a Class B Central game.

FREEHOLD 47, RED BANK 42: Rebecca Cobb scored 10 of her co-game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Colonials outscored the Bucs, 20-8, to rally for the win in a Class B North game.

Red Bank’s Jazz Van Loon also had 21 points.

FREEHOLD TWP. 55, HOWELL 27: Victoria Wagner’s 30 points led the Patriots (9-4) to the win over the Rebels (4-7) in a Class A North game.

Freehold Township broke the game open by outscoring Howell, 16-6, in the second quarter. That outburst extended a three-point lead after the first quarter to 30-17 at halftime. The lead grew to 50-21 after a 20-4 showing in the third quarter.

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN 33, MANASQUAN 30: Stephanie Lesko finished with a game-high 18 points leading the Bulldogs over the Warriors in a Class A Central game. Sam Sullivan finished with a team-high 10 points for the Warrriors.

Ice hockey

JACKSON MEMORIAL 1, SOUTHERN 0: Tom Holochuk’s goal with 14.6 seconds remaining gave the Jaguars (11-3-2) the win over the Rams (7-3-1) in a Class A South game.

Jackson Memorial goaltender T.J. Skodmin stopped 18 shots. Southern goaltender Nicholas Kapp had 25 saves.

OCEAN 5, RED BANK 1: Senior forward Matt Schulz scored three goals and assisted on a goal by John Walsh to lead the Spartans (13-4-3, 8-3-3) to the win over the Bucs in a Class B North game.

Andrew Schulz and Dave Newcomb each had three assisted. Newcomb, who also scored a goal, assisted on all of Mike Schulz’s goals. Andrew Schulz assisted on two of Mike Schulz’s goal and Newcomb’s goal.

Boys bowling

FREEHOLD TWP. 3, JACKSON LIB. 0: The Lions’ Joe Butari rolled a 300-712 in a loss to the Patriots in Class B Central at Howell Lanes.
