Alivia Clark homered in a five-run fourth inning that propelled the Elmira Notre Dame softball team to a 7-2 victory against visiting Waverly on Friday.
Clark also doubled as the Crusaders (8-2) handed Waverly (5-1) its first loss. Waverly was a 4-1 winner over Notre Dame at home Tuesday.
“The difference this time is we were able to put the ball in play and make things happen once we got people on base,” Notre Dame coach Steve Weber said. “Clark’s hit was a bit hit for us. They scored a run and she turned around and came right back with a home run and really changed momentum right there.”
Ally Wichtowski added a hit and drove in two runs for the Crusaders. Clark tossed a complete game, scattering nine hits.
Notre Dame hosts the three-team Lady Crusader Tournament Saturday. Notre Dame plays Spencer-Van Etten at 10 a.m., followed at noon by a meeting between Spencer-Van Etten and Dryden. The Crusaders close the tournament at 2 against Dryden.
Maine-Endwell 6, Horseheads 4: At Maine-Endwell, the Spartans collected 12 hits in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference win over Horseheads.
Horseheads 4, Ithaca 2: At Ithaca, Horseheads broke a tie with a run in the sixth inning and added an insurance in the seventh in a STAC victory.
Ryan Richer homered for Horseheads (6-2). Sean Nickerson and Christian Nickerson combined on a four-hitter.
Newark Valley 8, Watkins Glen 1: At Newark Valley, Blake Novi pitched a five-hitter to help the Cardinals to an IAC victory.
Dunn Field game rescheduled: The game between Elmira and Horseheads that was rained out Tuesday at Dunn Field has been rescheduled for May 12 as a doubleheader at the stadium.
The first game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., with the second at 7. Admission is $5 for adults.
Chenango Forks 16, Notre Dame 4: At Chenango Forks, Jack Sherwood had four goals and an assist to help the Blue Devils to a Section 4 victory.
Jonas McCaig had two goals and an assist for Notre Dame, which trailed 10-3 at halftime.
