Andrea Zlinsky recorded a game-high seven points (six goals, one assist) to help the Owego girls lacrosse team hand Maine-Endwell its first loss of the season, 11-6, in Wednesday’s Section 4 contest.
Zlinsky notched three of her goals in the second half as the Indians outscored the Spartans, 7-1, with four straight goals coming in the last 11 minutes, 6 seconds to pull away.
Emily Merrill added two goals for Owego, which played stout defense, holding the hosts to just eight shots, with only one coming in the second half.
Dani Cronk and Chelsea Cable each scored twice for M-E (7-1).
Johnson City 10, Chenango Forks 9: At JC, Emily Russin scored three second half goals to help the Wildcats hold on for a Section 4 victory. Trailing 7-6 with 15:52 left, Russin netted back-to-back goals to put Johnson City (4-2) ahead.
The Wildcats would stretch the lead to 10-7 before Forks netted two goals to get back into the game. With 20 seconds remaining, JC goalie Becky Conklin made a crucial save on a Blue Devil free position attempt to preserve the victory. Russin finished with three goals and an assist, Stella Safari added two goals and two assists, and Conklin finished with 11 saves for the Wildcats.
Tory Doll tallied three goals and Lisey Freije registered two for Chenango Forks.
Corning 5, Jamestown 0: At Myrtle Beach, Chris McKibben pitched a one-hitter and Nick Westgate and Greg Speroni each added two RBIs for the Hawks (3-1).
Elmira 14, Priceville 1: At Myrtle Beach, the Express took an early lead in the first inning and continued to gain ground to force a mercy rule. Abbie Topping went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Express, while pitcher Danielle Dille held Priceville scoreless from the third inning onward.
Wantagh 12, Maine-Endwell 9: At ME, Justin Miller scored four goals for the Spartans, but couldn’t hold off Wantagh. The Spartans fell behind in the third quarter when they were outscored 5-1.
