High School Roundup: Pat Carlin's 3 goals help Vestal topple Horseheads in lacrosse

Pat Carlin recorded three goals and two assists and the Vestal boys lacrosse team handed Horseheads its first loss of the season, 18-7, in a Section 4 contest Tuesday.

Rob Potenzino added four goals, Jake Nelson netted two, and Jared Nelson notched a goal and three assists for the Golden Bears (6-0), who outscored the host 11-2 in the second half. Vestal goalie Nick Nestlerode made seven saves.

Ian Cook and Carter McCormick scored two goals for Horseheads (2-1).

Ithaca 13, Binghamton 12: At Ithaca, Ben Stallman scored four goals and added two assists in the Patriots’ loss.

The Patriots gave up six goals in the third quarter but managed to hold on with eight saves from Thomas Draper. The Patriots found the net four times in the final quarter.

Corning 14, Union-Endicott 5: At Corning, Luke Wilbur made 15 saves for the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough to stem the Hawks’ offense. Justin Flint scored a hat trick for the Tigers.

Whitney Point 12, Elmira 3: At WP, Corey Hodges scored six goals and Jake Lynch added three goals and three assists for the Golden Eagles (4-1). Dakota Linger added his first varsity goal and goalie Drew Gardner made 14 saves for Whitney Point.

Elmira Notre Dame 13, Chenango Valley 7: At Notre Dame, Jonas McCaig recorded six goals and four assists, helping Elmira Notre Dame (3-3) win its Section 4 game. McCaig has registered 47 points in six games this season.

Nick Pert and Ryan Corey scored two goals each for CV (2-4).

Maine-Endwell 11, Owego 1: At Owego, Brock Post led a balanced M-E attack with two goals and three assists. The Spartans (6-1) switched to a pressure defense to force numerous turnovers. Tyler Ford scored the lone goal for the Indians (1-3).

Baseball

Maine-Endwell 3, Binghamton 1: At M-E, Alex Zimmerman pitched a two-hitter, striking out five for the Spartans. Kyle Ballmer had a two-out single in the fifth inning to drive in the go-ahead run for M-E (1-0).

Girls track and field

Oneonta 95, Chenango Valley 46: At CV, Chenango Valley’s Natalie Hawkes placed first in both the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races.
