High School Roundup: Seton CC boys edge Owego in boys lacrosse

Sam Crowley and Dan O’Brien each scored two goals to pace the Seton Catholic Central boys lacrosse team to a 5-3 victory over Owego in a Section 4 Conference game Saturday at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden.

Sam Crowley and Dan O’Brien paced the Saints (1-1) with two goals apiece. Brandon Pauly had a goal and two assists for Owego.

O’Brien added an assist and Alex Walsh scored the other goal for SCC (1-1), which was outshot 32-24, but Keyshawn Baker made 20 saves against the Indians (0-1).

Vestal 18, La Salle Institute 8: At Vestal, Jared and Jake Nelson combined to score 10 goals and to lead the Golden Bears (2-0). Pat Carlin won 12 of Vestal’s 21 face-off victories overall, and the Bears built a big lead by dominating ball control in the first half. Jared Nelson scored a game-high seven goals and Jake added three and six assists.

Chenango Valley 9, Dryden 5: Chenango Valley picked up its second win of the season, edging Dryden 9-5 in a section four boys lacrosse match. CV took an early lead and held on as Ryan Corey, Reed Grunder, Matt Slezak and Nick Pert all scored two goals apiece.

Girls lacrosse

Immaculate Heart Central 12, Seton Catholic Central 6: At Homer, Justine Johnson scored three goals and Meaghan O’Brien tallied a goal and an assist, but it wasn’t enough for the Saints in their season opener. IHC, from Watertown, scored three straight goals in the first nine minutes and led throughout.

Penfield 13, Corning 7: At Corning, Lindsay Gamer scored four goals to lead Penfield in nonleague play. Sara Grapevine and Taylor Mathis each registered hat tricks for Corning (1-1).
