High School Roundup: Shane Majewski's seven points lead Johnson City lacrosse team to victory

Shane Majewski scored four goals and added three assists as Johnson City won its ninth straight game, besting visiting Owego 15-6 in Section 4 boys lacrosse.

Nick Neferis added four goals and two assists for JC (11-1).

Neferis, the section’s leader in total points, has 55 goals and 34 assists after twelve games and recently eclipsed 300 career points in his varsity career. The schools all-time leading scorer has won an impressive 142 of 203 faceoffs this season.

Majewski has 72 points (49 goals, 23 assists) this season.

Girls lacrosse

Union-Endicott 10, Johnson City 8: At U-E, the Tigers tied the game at seven in the second half and went on a 3-1 run to jump ahead. Lisa Leska registered four goals and Madison Meyer added two to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Chenango Forks 10, Johnson City 8: At Chenango Forks, the Wildcats kept the match to a one-goal deficit, but Tory Doll scored a hat trick and an assist while Brooke Maietta and Vanessa Mirch each added two goals to help the Blue Devils hold on to the Section 4 win.

Union-Endicott 10, Binghamton 8: At U-E, Lisa Leska scored four goals and Madison Meyer added two for the Tigers (4-11), who outscored the Patriots 6-3 in the second half.

Molly Martinichio scored three goals for Binghamton.

Baseball

Chenango Forks 6, Oneonta 4: At Chenango Forks, Chad Raychel batted 3-for-3 with four RBIs to push Chenango Forks ahead. The Yellow Jackets drove in four runs with two outs in the seventh inning but couldn’t overcome the Blue Devils.

Susquehanna Valley 5, Norwich 4: At SV, Winning pitcher Dave Matthews went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Teammate Lain Zembek added a two RBI single in the fourth inning for SV (6-6).

Norwich’s Cody Barnes hit a solo home run.

Owego 8, Windsor 1: At Windsor, Matt Marsili finished 2-for-4 with a two RBIs and two runs scored for Owego. On the mound, Marsili struck out 11 and was the games winning pitcher.

Seton Catholic Central 4, Johnson City 2: At NYSEG Stadium, twin brothers Connor and Neil McCormack each finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored helping the Saints (8-4) to a divisional win.

Softball

Chenango Valley 11, Chenango Forks 9: At CV, Chelsea Henige hit a two-run home run, and the Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to get the STAC win.

Chenango Forks’ Elena Shelepak went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Union-Endicott 3, Elmira 0: At Elmira, Alexis Eastman pitched a 12-strikeout shutout and catcher Karleigh Eaton hit her first home run of the season to lead U-E (10-3) to a STAC victory.

Girls Track and Field

Binghamton 95, Maine-Endwell 39: At Binghamton, Jazmine Howard won the 100 meters and 200 dash and was part of the winning 400 relay while Alexis Daniels won the shot put and discus to help send the Patriots to victory and clinch the Metro Division.

Norwich 74, Oneonta 67: At Oneonta, Sydney Chaffee won the 100, 200 and 400 for Norwich. Brooke Bonney and Morgan Hagenbuch also won multiple field events, keeping the Purple Tornado undefeated and clinching the East Division in STAC.
