Okemos freshman Adam Goodsir became the first Lansing area hockey player since former Michigan State star and Detroit Red Wings player Drew Miller to be drafted by one of the 16 United States Hockey League teams when he was selected in the 18th round of phase II by the Tri-City Storm earlier this week.
The USHL team, which is based in Kearney, Neb., is for junior players age 16-20 and holds Goodsir’s rights for three years. Goodsir, who most recently played for the Lansing Capital AAA midget minor league team, will attend a tryout camp in June to determine if he will play for Tri-City in 2014-15.
Tri-City may decide to have him play another year in the Lansing area, and he would likely play for the Lansing Capitals AAA midget major team in that case. Many USHL players go on to play college hockey and some make it to the NHL.
