THE WINNER: Tristen Hoge

School: Highland (Pocatello, Idaho)
Grade: Senior
Position: Center
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 295 pounds

Athletic achievement: He recorded 133 pancake blocks this past season, leading the Rams (12-0) to the Class 5A state championship. The state’s returning Gatorade Football Player of the Year, Hoge helped pave the way for a Highland offense that averaged 377 yards and 43.1 points per game. A First Team All-State selection, he has been chosen to play in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Academic excellence: Hoge has maintained a 4.10 GPA.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Shop With a Ram program, which provides Christmas gifts for underprivileged children.

“The most impressive thing is how he finishes blocks at the point of attack and just pancakes opponents,” said Fred Armstrong, head coach at Idaho Falls (Idaho) Bonneville. “He does a great job getting to the linebackers, which is amazing for his size.”

THE FUTURE: Hoge has verbally committed to Notre Dame.
