CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Independence Patriots are bringing the Big I back to Charlotte football. The Patriots hosted Myers Park Friday and never let the Mustangs seriously contend for the victory. The Patriots got off to a good start, driving down the field to lead the game 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Independence defense came to play too, and they made their presence known in the first half. After forcing a turnover on downs, quarterback Kelvin Hopkins broke a 64-yard touchdown run to extend Indy’s lead to 15-0. Following a bad Myers Park snap, Indy’s defense recovered the loose ball and scampered into the endzone, taking a 22-0 lead.

At the half, Indy led 29-0 over the visiting Mustangs. Independence remained in control throughout the rest of the game, dominating en rout to a 43-0 lead before the Mustangs got on the board. Independence rolled to a 50-14 victory.
