CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On a special Thursday night game, Independence High School manhandled the visiting Porter Ridge Pirates, 42-7. The Patriots were in charge from the early stages, leading 22-0 at the end of the first quarter. Senior quarterback Kelvin Hopkins was on top of his game, throwing four touchdowns in another great performance. The Independence defense was looking at another shutout before Porter Ridge scored with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Independence is now 7-0 on the season, and will face Garinger High School in two weeks.
