The NJSIAA Group I and IV indoor track and field championships were held Monday evening with several Shore Conference representatives qualifying for the Meet of Champions.
In girls Group IV, Freehold Township’s Ciara Roche captured the 3,200 crown in 11:03.41. Also, the Patriots’ Adrian Vitello (2:15.01) and Emily Bracher (2:16.45) placed second and third, respectively, in the 800. Southern’s Brianna Angellella was sixth in 2:19.15.
Southern’s 4×400 relay team of Elizabeth Cartier, Melana Hammel, Carly Burnup, and Angellella placed third in 3:58.80, while Freehold Township’s team of Dominique Panton, Caitlyn Poss, Vitello and Bracher finished fifth at 4:03.92.
Toms River North’s Tifani Byrd and Sarah Zollner also qualified for the MOC. Byrd finished fifth in the 55 hurdles at 8.45, while Zollner was fourth in the pole vault at 10-6. Toms River East’s Julia Schuler was sixth at 10-0.
Southern’s Isabel Barsch placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 37-½.
In boys Group IV, Toms River North’s Rickey Carberry qualified for the MOC with a third-place 55-meter time of 6.65. The Mariners’ Tyler MacDonlad finished fourth in the 800 at 1:58.02.
Southern’s Nick Nocco finished fourth in the 1,600 at 4:23.43, while Jackson Memorial’s Ryan Rafferty was sixth (4:25.57).
Freehold Township’s Nasir Hayes finished fifth in the 400 at 50.52. Howell’s Ian Kirk placed second in the high jump at 6-6.
In girls Group I, Asbury Park’s Emonee Davis placed sixth in the 400 meters in 1:01.19, while teammate Quinara Bullock was sixth in the shot put at 33-7, both qualifying for the MOC.
Shore Regional’s Sarah George also moved on to the MOC after placing second in the 800 in 2:20.91, behind Westwood’s Corinne Myers (2:14.55).
