Iowans take national volleyball title

The All-Iowa Attack won the 17-under USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championship last week in Minneapolis.

The players: Ankeny Centennial’s Jaali Winters, Jordyn Rittman and McKenna Pierson; Ankeny’s Moriah Johnson; Johnston’s Hayley Dotseth; Dowling Catholic’s Haley Shimon; Valley’s Courtney Twit; Algona’s Gabby Holmes and Boone’s Mariah McPartland.

Winters was named the MVP and Rittman and Pierson joined her on the all-tournament team.

The Ames-based All-Iowa Attack, best known for its youth basketball teams, competed for the first time in volleyball this season under coaches Rachel Petersen, Kristen Hahn and Jesse Tupac. Petersen and Hahn are former Iowa State players.

The Iowans topped a Houston club in the championship.
