Throughout his recruitment, Isaiah Briscoe has always maintained that wherever he ended up, “I want the ball in my hands from day one.”

Next season he’ll likely get his wish at what he called “a machine of producing point guards that go to the NBA.”

The group includes John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Kentucky coach John Calipari also helped Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls reach the NBA from Memphis.

Briscoe, a senior point guard at Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.) who is ranked No. 1 among floor general in the ESPN 100, picked Kentucky over St. John’s and Connecticut Thursday evening live on ESPNU.

ESPN recruiting analyst Reggie Rankin said Briscoe will be “an instant difference maker” for Kentucky.

“He brings an element to the table that Kentucky hasn’t had at the point guard position, in terms of his physicality,” Rankin said. “He’s terrific at getting to the rim, lives through contact and he lives at the free-throw line. In an environment like Kentucky he’ll be able to make plays off ball screens and continue to push the pace in transition. It’s a perfect fit.”

Last season, Briscoe led Roselle Catholic, ranked No. 7 in the USA Today HSS Preseason Super 25, to a state title then followed that up by leading the Playaz Basketball Club (N.J.) to the Nike Peach Jam title, the most prestigious AAU title of the summer. His dominance this summer earned him two USA Today HSS Player’s Choice awards (Best Handles and Biggest Trash Talker).

“I just love his killer instinct,” Rankin said. “He’s got that ‘dog’ in him in a good way!”

Briscoe said he plans to see in the spring.

“See who stays and see who goes,” he told ESPNU, “and make sure it’s the perfect fit.”

Briscoe joins Lausanne Collegiate School (Memphis, Tenn.) center Skal Labissiere and St. Rita (Chicago) shooting guard Charles Matthews to form the Wildcats’ 2015 class thus far.
