INDIANAPOLIS

Jeffersonville’s Tim Martin qualified third in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles and teammate Evan Shive seventh in the 100 backstroke at the IHSAA boys swimming/diving championshipn Friday night.

Martin and Shive will swim in championship finals Saturday.

Martin, a senior, swam the 50 in 20.89, behind only Kyle DeCoursey of Zionsville (20.65) and Mate Kovacs of Penn (20.71). His 100 time of 45.25 trailed only Blake Pieroni of Chesterton (a state-record 43.52) and DeCoursey (44.69). Shive swam the 100 back in 51.50. Chesterton’s Aaron Whitaker was fastest in 47.31.

Qualifying for consolation finals were Shive in the 100 butterfly (10th, 50.72); Floyd Central’s Colin Lyell in the 50 freestyle (12th, 21.57); Jeffersonville’s 400 free relay (Martin, Tyler Saricsany, Zachary Griddis, Shive, 10th, 3:09.74) and Floyd Central’s 200 free relay (Lyell, Eli Anderson, Noble Guyon, Nathan Manias, 11th, 1:27.28).
