Jerry Foley has been a fixture in the New Orleans prep football community for longer than you can remember. Every week, he ranks the top 10 local 5A teams and spotlights a Player of the Week in each local 5A district.
Brother Martin and Jesuit flip-flop again in this week’s Top Ten, with the Blue Jays moving back up to No. 4 after topping the Crusaders at Tad Gormley Saturday afternoon. The two Catholic League schools come in behind a top three that seems unlikely to change at this point—Rummel, Destrehan, and Ponchatoula. Thibodaux and Ehret hold firm at Nos. 6 and 7, and St. Paul’s drops to No. 10 after a blowout loss to Ponchatoula, opening the door for Hahnville and Mandeville to move up after beating Central Lafourche and Northshore, respectively.

Now on to the players of the week. Slidell’s Lionel Craig is the District 6-5A Player of the Week with a strong two-way performance in the Tigers’ 27-3 win over Fontainebleau. The senior caught four passes for 82 yards, ran the ball four times for 50 yards, and intercepted a Bulldog pass. In District 7-5A, the Player of the week is senior Marquis Garman of Thibodaux. The defensive tackle recorded 13 tackles and 4 sacks in the Tigers’ 35-0 domination of South Lafourche. Safety Michaund Blaise of Chalmette is the District 8-5A winner. The freshman gets the youth vote with 10 tackles in a win over Bonnabel. And senior linebacker Robert Lobrano of Jesuit is the District 9-5A Player of the Week, with a whopping 25 tackles — nine solo, 16 assists — in the Blue Jays’ 17-14 win over Brother Martin.
