Taylor County (26-6) survived a missed 3-pointer by Stephen Price and a failed tip-in off the rebound by Jake Clark after the buzzer, to defeat Thomas Nelson (16-13), 60-59, in a Fifth Region boys’ basketball tournament semifinal Thursday at Marion County.

With the victory, Taylor County advances to play Elizabethtown in the Fifth Region final on Monday.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by David Sloan’s 16 points, and teammate Quentin Goodin added 14 points for Taylor County.

The Generals were led by Kevin Ndahiro with 16 points.

: Nic McDonald scored a game-high 22 points as the Panthers (22-8) cruised past the Hawks (14-12) in another Fifth Region tournament game. . JaVon Cotton added 11 points for Elizabethtown. Caleb Sheffer paced LaRue County with 16 points.* Elizabethtown 64, LaRue County 48

: Sam Jones had 20 points and Demarcus George added 19 to lead the Indians (22-10) past the Flyers (15-13) in the 11th Region Tournament. Cameron Thomas scored 12 points for Madison Central. : Nearly scoring half of his team’s points, Trent Gilbert erupted for 30 points, including 15 of 16 from the free-throw line as the No. 3-ranked Cardinals (30-3) disposed of the Knights (19-12). . Gilbert knocked down three 3-pointers, and Teddy Ware hit five en route to his 17 points. Tanner Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 16 points. : Alexus Calhoun and Haeli Howard led Marion County (16-14) past Bethlehem (10-12) to advance in the Fifth Region at Nelson County. Howard poured in 14 points while Calhoun netted a game-high 19 points. The Banshees were led by MacKenzie Hagan’s 17 points.* Marion Co. 54, Bethlehem 43

first round

: Dylana Fothergill had 15 points as the Warriors (24-6) out-hopped the Briar Jumpers (14-15) in the first round of the 12th Region. Elizabeth Latham had 14 points and Adison Corder 13 for Southwestern. Somerset’s Virginia Scott led all scorers with 23 points.* Southwestern 59, Somerset 43

: Seygan Robins exploded for 34 points, including three 3-pointers, to help the Titans (27-5) edge the Rebels (20-8) in overtime and advance to the semifinals of the 12th Region Tournament. Heidi Huffman had 15 points for Mercer County. Despite Devin Conley’s 25 points, Boyle County still fell short. : Senior Rachel Smith poured in 17 points to power the Wildcats (22-6)over the Hawks (8-21) in the first round of the 15th Region Tournament. Lindsay Proffitt pitched in 14 points. : Jasmine Howard, Leslie Howard and Jamie Castle combined for 55 points of Magoffin County’s 65 to help the Hornets (23-5) sting the Rebels (13-10). Jasmine Howard had 19 points, while Leslie Howard and Jamie Castle each had 18 points. Sarah Rife led all scorers with 22 points for Magoffin County.
