THE WINNER: Megan Hensley
School: Ashland (Ky.) Blazer
Athletic achievement: She has posted a 28-4 record in the circle along with a 0.63 ERA this season, leading the Kittens (31-5) to the first round of the KHSAA State Tournament against McCracken County, scheduled for June 5. Through 36 games, Hensley has struck out 369 batters and walked 46 in 200.2 innings pitched, firing five no-hitters, including a perfect game. At the plate, the 2013 MaxPreps.com Underclass All-American selection was batting .561 with nine home runs, 44 RBI and a .981 slugging percentage.
Academic excellence: Hensley has maintained a weighted 4.07 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, she has volunteered locally with the Salvation Army, as a youth softball coach and with multiple community-service initiatives through her church youth group.
“Megan Hensley is without a doubt the best pitcher in the history of the 16th Region,” said Lauren Ellis, head coach of Fairview. “What makes her so dangerous in the circle is that she pairs a hard ball with incredible movement. She keeps hitters guessing at all times.”
THE FUTURE: Hensley has verbally committed to Louisville.
