Kleist pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Zachow to get the win. Appleton East forced extra innings by tying the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on Mayra Villagomez’s two-run single.
“We got great pitching from Megan and Summer, and our kids made the plays behind them,” said Kimberly coach Bill Weyers, whose team improved to 15-2 overall and 12-2 in the Fox Valley Association.
Kimberly’s Jenna Smarzinski went 3-for-5 in the second game and was 5-for-9 in the doubleheader. Abby Menting and Sara Rosenow had two hits apiece in the finale.
Appleton East (11-8, 8-5) was hurt by six errors in the second game.
“We had a couple of errors in the ninth and they had a couple stolen bases, and things kind of got away,” said East coach Janel Batten. “In the first game, Kleist pitched great for them.”
