Kirkwood cruised past archrival Webster Groves in one of America’s oldest and most storied Turkey Bowl contests on a chilly Thursday in suburban St. Louis.
Kirkwood jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half, controlling the offensive tempo. The Pioneers didn’t let up in the second half, either, piling on the points to put the game out of reach early.
The win was the second straight dominating performance from Kirkwood in the rivalry, following a 44-0 whitewash in 2013, helping the Pioneers retain the Frisco Bell trophy.
Given the dominant performance by the Pioneers, the enduring story from the game may have been the weather conditions, with a layer of snowing coating Moss Field at kickoff. By the end of the fourth quarter it had melted away, just like Webster Groves’ hopes of a surprising upset.
Webster finishes the season at 7-3, while Kirkwood rounds out at 11-2.
