La Salle senior defensive lineman Jordan Thompson has a slight tear in his meniscus and will miss the season opener against Colerain, according to Lancers coach Nate Moore.
Thompson, who verbally committed to Northwestern in early May, is out injured for several weeks, Moore said. The team isn’t sure when Thompson will return but he will miss the opener against Colerain (8:30 p.m. kickoff) Aug. 29 at Yager Stadium.
“Jordan is irreplaceable,” Moore told The Enquirer this morning. “There is nobody who can take the place of Jordan Thompson – leadership wise and as a player. It is a blow for us. At the same time, you can’t replace that guy, everybody has to play a little better.”
Thompson, an Enquirer Division I all-area selection last season, had 62 tackles, a forced fumble and 4.5 sacks for the Lancers.
Thompson was the third area football player in the 2015 class to make a verbal college commitment.
Thompson had offers that included UC, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Minnesota, Illinois, Duke, Bowling Green, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Iowa and Toledo during the recruiting process.
