Lady Bobcats crush Lead Hill, 50-10

By

The Flippin Lady Bobcats maintained their season-opening win streak with a dominating victory Tuesday night.

The Lady Bobcats held Lead Hill scoreless for almost the entire first quarter and went on to post a 50-10 victory over the Lady Tigers in nonconference play at Bobcat Country.

Flippin — now 6-0 overall on the season — scored the game’s first 16 points, and Lead Hill did not score until Hailey Groen hit her first of two 3-pointers on the night with just 15 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Micah Hudson and Jessica Pace gave Flippin an 8-0 lead, and after Hannah Butcher hit 1 of 2 at the foul line and Malaina Gonzalez scored underneath, Abby Helmke scored five straight for a 16-0 advantage.

Flippin outscored Lead Hill by the same 16-3 clip in the second quarter to take a 32-6 halftime cushion.

Butcher scored nine in the paint in the second quarter alone, and Hudson added five more for the hosts.

Flippin almost shut out Lead Hill in the third quarter as well. Hudson scored five straight that put the Lady Bobcats up 41-6, and the hosts led 45-6 after buckets by Helmke and Gonzalez.

Charlie Sprinkle scored on a steal and layup with under a minute to play in the third for Lead Hill’s only points of the frame.

Flippin’s Karlee Wood hit a 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter to send the lead to 40, insuring a running clock in the fourth quarter due to the mercy rule.

Flippin took a 50-8 lead on a bucket by Sydney Riggs, and Lead Hill scored its final two on 2-of-3 free-throw shooting by Hannah Clary as the final buzzer sounded.

Hudson tossed in 15 points and Butcher added 14 to lead the Lady Bobcats, while Groen’s two 3-pointers led Lead Hill with six markers.

Flippin’s games at Eureka Springs scheduled for Thursday have been canceled, and the next action will be Friday when Flippin hosts Bruno-Pyatt for junior varsity games.
