Junior guard Zach Detrick scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lanisng boys’ basketball team to a season-opening 55-52 victory over Union Springs on Tuesday in Interscholastic Athletic Conference play.
Josh Miller-Labar and Nathan Bandler added 10 points apiece for the Bobcats, who took a 10-point lead into the final quarter and withstood a comeback attempt from the Wolves (0-1).
Detrick made three of Lansing’s five 3-point field goals, with Bandler hitting the other two.
Garrett Cunningham scored 14 points and Jordan Anthony added 12 for Union Springs.
Lansing 37, Union Springs 34: On Tuesday at Lansing, Shea McCartney scored a game-high 18 points as the Bobcats (1-0) won a closely fought game with the Wolves.
Jamison Valentino led a balanced attack with seven points for the Wolves (0-1), who trailed by two at halftime and five after three quarters.
Odessa-Montour 55, Campbell-Savona 19: On Tuesday at Campbell, Gillian Clark matched the Panthers’ entire offensive output with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Nakiaha Robinson chipped in 13 points for Coach Greg Gavich’s Indians (1-0), who won their opener for the first time in four years.
Newfield 43, Trumansburg 38: On Tuesday at Trumansburg, Ashley Tyskewicz scored 14 points and Sierra Henry added 12 as the visiting Trojans opened by defeating the Blue Raiders. Megan McIntyre led the way with 14 points, including all three of her team’s 3-pointers, for Trumansburg.
Dryden 44, Whitney Point 34: On Wednesday at Whitney Point, Roger Tras, Sam Dav, Robert Craw and Kyle Krause earned their first varsity wins to propel Dryden in its season-opener.
Craw pinned Whitney Point’s Damian Backus (2:37) at 126 pounds and Krause pinned Cory Backus-Ellis (1:11) at 132 pounds, while Tras won by forfeit at 99 pounds and Dav topped Alex Bennett in a 10-6 decision at 113 pounds. Dryden had eight pins in the match.
Vestal 42, Ithaca 24: On Tuesday at Vestal, the Little Red (0-1) got wins from freshman Darren Rich (120 pounds), sophomore Declan Levine (138, pin), all-state senior Richie Burke (152), senior Julian Korfine (160), senior Conner Keating (170, pin) and senior Justin Milner (182).
All but one of Vestal’s victories were of the bonus-point variety, including a forfeit and five pins.
