Susquehanna Valley’s Shaynne Rodriguez converted a crucial three-point play to send the host Sabers to a 65-64 victory over Dryden in a Section 4 Class B boys basketball quarterfinal Tuesday in Conklin.

Down 64-62, Rodriguez made a layup off an offensive rebound and hit the subsequent free throw to give SV the lead with 12 seconds left. Justin Caroway made a steal on Dryden’s next possesion to seal the game.

Dave Matthews led all scorers with 24 points and Jason Fiorentino finished with 16 including a 4 of 4 performance from the free throw stripe in the final quarter when they outscored the visitors 22-12. Rodriguez tallied 9 and Caleb Reynods added 8.

Ali Abel-Ferretti and Trevor Gardner each scored 20 points to pace Dryden.

Third-seeded Susquehanna Valley (12-7) travels to second-seeded Oneonta for a semifinal contest at 7 Friday.

Oneonta 54, Waverly 52: At Oneonta, sophomore Albert Odero drove the length of the floor and hit a layup at the buzzer as the second-seeded Yellowjackets beat the seventh-seeded Wolverines in a Class B quarterfinal.

Odero finished with a game-high 22 points and George Foti added 11 for Oneonta (16-2).

“He’s (Odero) a great player for a sophomore,” said Waverly coach Lou Judson.” We had trouble keeping him in front of us and he got to the basket at will on us at times.”

Waverly’s Dylan Perry hit a 3-pointer with 5.3 seconds left to tie the game at 52-all.

Hunter Bodine and Alex Uhl scored 14 points apiece and Perry added 11 for the Wolverines (10-9).

Class AA

Union-Endicott 76, Horseheads 53: At U-E, C.J. Krowiak finished with a game-high 28 points to lead the top seeded Tigers to the Class AA championship game. Matt Eastman hit five three-pointers en route to 19 points while Joey Orlando scored 5 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out nine assists and made five steals.

Foster Clark and Jacob Stermer had 17 points apiece for Horseheads (8-9), which was seeded fourth.

U-E (15-4) plays against Elmira for the AA title at 7:45 on February 27th at the Broome County Arena. The two teams split their regular season meetings.

Class C

Spencer-Van Etten 56, Greene 52: At Greene, Derek Carman scored 29 points, including a 3-pointer with 1:15 left to give S-VE the lead, and the 10th-seeded Panthers knocked off the seventh-seeded Trojans in a Class C first-round game.

Brandon Davis scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Zach Wentlent also scored 18 points for Greene (12-7) before leaving with a knee injury with 3½ minutes left.

The Trojans led by five at that point, but with a lesser inside presence impeding him, Carman took over, scoring 20 points in the second half, with nine coming in the fourth.

Elliot Deppe scored nine points and Zack Tyson added eight for S-VE (9-8), which advances to face second seed Moravia in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Lansing 63, Harpursville 44: At Lansing, Ben Rourke scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the fifth-seeded Bobcats defeated No. 12 Harpursville to advance to the Class C quarterfinals.

“We didn’t shoot well in the first half, but Rourke had a really good game for us,” Lansing coach Adam Heck said. “We got some transition points in the first half, which helped us open up a lead.”

Zach Detrick added 10 points for the Bobcats (13-5), who avenged a six-point loss on the road to the Hornets in early January.

Jon Andrews scored 12 points to lead Harpursville (8-10).

Lansing advances to play at fourth-seeded Watkins Glen at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Unadilla Valley 59, Candor 31: At UV, sophomore guard David Dufresne scored 22 points to lead the Storm to a victory in the Section 4 Class C quarterfinals.

Nate Shackleton added 10 points for the Storm (15-4), who used a pressure defense to take a 34-5 lead at halftime.

Candor (8-11) was paced by James Thompkins and Kevin Hollenbeck, who scored six points apiece.

Unadilla Valley will play at third-seeded Newfield on Friday at 7 p.m.

Marathon 74, Unatego 60: At Unatego, the ninth seeded Olympians edged 8th seeded Unatego in Class C play. Marathon advances to play at top seeded Elmira Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Friday.

Class D

Laurens 62, Delhi 46: At Delhi, Mitchell Barra scored a game-high 19 points leading 10th-seeded Laurens over seventh-seeded Delhi in the Class D sectionals. Laurens advances to the quarterfinals where they will travel to second seeded Davenport at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Delhi’s Connor Gioffe finished with 12 points.

In other Class D first-round games played Tuesday, Stamford defeated Margaretville, 65-45, Southern Cayuga cruised to a 70-32 victory over Cherry Valley-Springfield, Gilboa-Conesville routed Worcester, 63-25, Milford topped Deposit, 65-52, Laurens defeated Delhi, 62-46 and Charlotte Valley defeated Frankling, 64-39.
