Lax event's runaway bouncy slide

Everyone was minding their business at a recent youth lacrosse jamboree in Colorado, watching games from the sideline and cheering on young athletes when all of a sudden WHOA! BOUNCY SLIDE ON THE LOOSE!

Used as a way to entertain the younger siblings of some of the (also young) lacrosse players competing at the event, the bouncy slide at the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree was caught up in a gust of wind and blew straight across multiple fields that were occupied by the athletes themselves. In the end, the inflatable traveled some 200-300 feet, eventually stopping just short of landing on a nearby pond.

According to fellow Gannett news property KUSA, the giant inflatable structure took off just as one girl was headed down its slide, a transition which sent the youngster flying feet high up in the air. No injuries were reported for the girl on the slide, though another young boy who was in the structure when it blew out didn’t escape quite as luckily. He was sent to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, though one onlooker said that the boy was clearly, “shook up.”

The jamboree which was briefly interrupted serves some 10,000 athletes each year, showcasing some of the best young emerging lacrosse talent in the Rocky Mountain state. All those in attendance at the 2014 event are more likely to remember a bizarre occurence than they are some of the best goals.

“It was pretty horrific and scary and you just freeze in the moment,” eyewitness Vanessa Atencio told KUSA. “I hope the family and everyone’s okay and we’re praying for a good recovery.”
