Ruskin, Fl – Diontae Johnson, star athlete at Lennard High School, is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.
Last Friday, Johnson helped the Longhorns beat district rival Jefferson 39-34. The senior wide receiver caught three touchdown passes, all in the first quarter.
in the second quarter, Johnson also returned a kickoff 80-yards for his fourth touchdown of the game. He also played cornerback, shutting down receivers on his side of the field.
Johnson credits third-year head coach Keith Chattin, for instilling team toughness through an extensive weight training program.
“The weight room to me is the difference, because we didn’t really have a size to us. We were really small. We didn’t really have a program, so all we needed was a weight room program and he brought that to us. And we started buying in to it.”
With the win over Jefferson, the Longhorns (6-1, 5-1) are having the most successful season ever in their short eight-year school history. This Friday Lennard faces their biggest challenge of the season, when they travel to Seffner to face the undefeated Armwood Hawks, in a Class 6A-8 district battle.
