NEWS CENTER – Lewiston and Messalonskee were two of the best high school hockey teams in the state this past season. They also happened to have the two best individual talents in the state.
Lewiston forward Kyle Lemelin became the 19th recipient of the Travis Roy Award, which is given to the state’s best senior in Class ‘A’. Messalonskee’s Chase Cunningham won the Class ‘B’ equivalent.
Lemelin, a four-year starter for the Blue Devils, led them in scoring each of the past two seasons. He’s the 2nd player from Lewiston to win the award.
Cunningham made a perfect season somehow even more perfect. The senior forward guided the Eagles to their first ever state championship with an unblemished record and did so in record setting fashion.
The school’s all-time scoring leader with 252 points racked up 33 goals and 50 assists this past season.
