Local swimmers heading to nationals

A group of local swimmers have qualified for the National Club Swimming Association Junior Nationals, swimming out of the Lakeview Aquatic Club.

Three Lakeview High School swimmers and a swimmer from Portage Central will be respresenting the local swim club at the Nationals, which will be in Orlando, starting Monday.

Scott Carstens, a sophomore at Lakeview, has qualified in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 50 butterfly.

John Vann, a junior at Lakeview, has qualified in the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Brooke Rowe, a senior at Lakeview, will compete in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 50 butterfly.

Maddie Umberger, a junior at Portage Central, will compete in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 IM and 400 IM.

Umberger and Vann have also been named as USA Swimming Scholar Athletes, having achieved national level qualifying times while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
