As many of you who regularly read the paper and/or the website know, we’ve been dedicating each day to a particular fall sport with #LohudCamp stops at various schools across the section. Last Monday we hit football, Tuesday was girls soccer, Wednesday was field hockey and Thursday was boys soccer. We are resuming this week with cross country, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
My editors have now given the official word that volleyball camp stops will be made on Wednesday, August 27, which means you’ll likely want to grab the paper on Thursday. My colleague Vince Mercogliano and I will be hitting a couple of stops between the two of us that day. We will each be writing a small feature on one team and contributing information from the others to a massive volleyball notebook, which I will be writing. I will also be stopping by Yorktown‘s five-team scrimmage on Tuesday. I will have blog posts from the teams attending, as well as contributing any pertinent information to Thursday’s notebook.
Between these two days, we should see 13 different local teams in action. We will be grabbing as much information and video work for the blog as possible, so be sure to check back here.
I will have separate blog posts for each school, which will also include extra information, notes and quotes that will not make the paper. Vince does a phenomenal job as our boys soccer beat writer, so if you take a look at his blog here, it should give you an idea of what these posts will look like. Here are some volleyball stops from last year.
So, where will we be?
I will be swinging by Nanuet, Eastchester‘s scrimmage and possibly Mamaroneck, while Vince hits Dobbs Ferry and John Jay‘s scrimmage against Ursuline. As I’ve told many of you coaches, I will try to get any as many other practices, when possible. My Twitter feed is embedded into the right side of the blog, so you can track everything from my end, there. Follow Vince on Twitter at @vzmercogliano. I will be retweeting most, if not all, he puts out there, so if you don’t have Twitter to follow him, when I retweet it, it will show up in my feed to the right.
Teams we should see this week: Yorktown, Ardsley, Pelham, Scarsdale, John Jay-East Fishkill, John Jay, Ursuline, Dobbs Ferry, Nanuet, Eastchester, Scarsdale B, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and possibly Mamaroneck.
I’ll probably swing by Clarkstown South’s preseason scrimmage, but don’t know how much I’ll be allowed to tweet from the day. The tournament will allow me to see an additional nine local teams (Albertus Magnus, Fox Lane, Carmel, Clarkstown South, Rye, North Rockland, Blind Brook, Clarkstown North and Ossining).
