CHRIS ROOT
BATH /
LANSING CATHOLIC senior
The facts: Chris recorded his 100th win in early December while winning the Owosso Invitational and since has won the Napoleon Invitational and Shepherd Invitational at 140 pounds while compiling a 17-0 record so far this season. In 2011, Chris helped to bring wrestling back to Lansing Catholic, which since has been part of a cooperative program with Bath. (Bath had previously been a co-op team with Laingsburg, which is now on its own.) He finished 37-5 a year ago, and is currently ranked seventh in the state in individual rankings.
From coach Chuck Root: “Chris does not fit the average wrestling mold. He is tall and lanky for his weight (6-foot-2 at 140 pounds). He has learned to use his length and leverage to become one of the best wrestlers at his weight. Chris has an unmatched love and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling that sets him apart from others. This may come from his father, Chris, and uncle who wrestled for MSU in the early 1980s. As his coach and uncle, I’m proud of the way he works and excited at how good he can be!”
