The facts: Struble defeated 2012 Division 2 state champion and 2014 CAAC Gold champion Abby Perkins of Mason 6-2, 6-4 on Friday to add a Division 2 regional title to her CAAC Blue championship from the previous week. After going undefeated the past two years at No. 2 singles and earning back-to-back Division 2 state titles, Struble has compiled a 20-2 record at No. 1 singles this spring for the fourth-ranked Chiefs. She is seeded third for the state finals that are May 30-31 in Holland.

From coach Lisa Semerly: “Emily is a very disciplined and committed player. She finds a way to always pull the win out. She’s a great kid, and she’s been a really good teammate. She is dedicated to her tennis game. She’s been a great No. 1 (singles player). You always know what to expect with Emily. She has an inner strength that allows her to stay focused throughout her matches and not become easily distracted. The mental game is such a big part of tennis. She’s handled that pressure really well. She’s always at practice and always working on her game. She gets out what she puts into the game. Her success is well-deserved.”
