Jeremy Wilber and Colin Wenzel combined for five goals and three assists as the Maine-Endwell hockey team took control early and went on to a 7-2 victory against Chenango Forks on Sunday in an elimination game in the Broome County High School Hockey Association playoffs at the SUNY Broome Ice Center.
Maine-Endwell advances to the championship against Vestal, which has not lost in the playoffs. The game will be 6:45 p.m. Thursday at SUNY Broome; if Maine-Endwell wins, a deciding game will be the following Thursday.
Wilber scored twice in the first period and completed his hat trick in the second as Maine-Endwell took a 4-0 lead before Chenango Forks’ first goal late in the second period. Wenzel had one goal in the first period and added another in the second as Maine-Endwell led 6-1 at the second intermission.
Kyle Balmer had a goal and three assists for Maine-Endwell and Chris McVannan had 21 saves in goal. Josh Maus and Jeffrey Halstrom both scored power-play goals for Chenango Forks and Adam Carman had 21 saves.
