THE WINNER: Alyssa Williamson
School: Scarborough (Maine)
Athletic achievement: She led the Red Storm to a 14-0 record and a berth in the Class A state tournament, scheduled to begin June 10. Williamson batted .468 with five home runs, 28 RBI through 14 games and has not struck out in 175 plate appearances dating back to her sophomore year in 2012. A three-time First Team All-State selection, she also compiled a 6-0 record in the circle along with a 1.32 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched.
Academic excellence: Williamson has maintained a 92.3 average.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics, Ruth’s Reusable Resources and as a youth softball coach.
“Alyssa Williamson is the top player we’ve seen this season,” said Maureen Curran, head coach at Cheverus. “She’s in a class by herself as a pitcher. She throws hard but her speed isn't what differentiates her from other players in the league. Her control and movement are her distinguishing traits. She’s a student of the game, which is evident in both her pitching and her hitting. In addition, she conducts herself with class on and off the field.”
THE FUTURE: Williamson has signed with Drexel.
