Mannion family has big weekend of football ahead

SILVERTON, Ore. — This is a big football weekend for the Mannion family.

John Mannion is the head coach of the Silverton High School Foxes. His team plays for the state 5A football championship against Hermiston Saturday at one at Hillsboro Stadium.

Later Saturday Sean Mannion will play what could be his final game as a college player when Oregon State hosts Oregon in the Civil War.

John Mannion says he’s fortunate to have two big things going on this weekend.

“It’s all about the game at one. We’re going to go up there and give our all. Theoretically I could make the other game but I’m planning on not being there,” he said.

Coach Mannion will ride the bus with his team as he always does to away games.

He did spend some time in Corvallis today and talked with Sean about both games. He also got support from Beavers coaches who said, “let’s get a double tomorrow.”

The town of Silverton is excited about the game. The last state title for the Foxes came back in 1991.

Curt Allen owns Curt’s Barbershop. He was in the 7th grade when Silverton won that title.

“I think it’s going to be a tough, tough game but I think Silverton will take the win,” he said.

The whole town is rooting for the Silverton Foxes.

The Mannions will split up. Some will go to Hillsboro and some to Corvallis.
