WAXHAW, N.C. — Marvin Ridge High School punter Marion Watson took over MaxPreps’ number one ranking following his performance against Piedmont High School. The Marvin Ridge senior is also the team’s placekicker, a position he has excelled in this season.

Following last week’s game against Piedmont, Watson now has an average of 49.6 yards per punt, with 6 punts being downed inside the opponents’ 20 yard line. Against Victory Christian, Watson had the longest punt of his season, an outstanding 85 yard kick that completely flipped field position for the Mavericks.

Against Cuthbertson on October 10, Watson had what might be his best game of the season. The senior punter had 5 punts for 287 yards, averaging a remarkable 57.4 yards per kick, including a 63 yard punt. The Mavericks also downed two of Watson’s punts inside the Cuthbertson 20 yard line.

Doubling up as the kicker, Watson has been able to provide Brad Hoover’s team with some consistency on special teams, converting on 90% of his extra point attempts and hitting 8-of-12 field goals with a long of 48 yards.
