THE BASICS

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class 4A individual state championship this past season with a time of 15:41.30, leading the Falcons to a state title as a team. A 2013 Washington Post First Team All-Met selection, Forsyth earned seventh place at the 2013 Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:12.6. He qualified for the 2013 Nike Cross Nationals Final, where he finished 52nd in 15:48.

Academic excellence: Forsyth has maintained a 4.15 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, he volunteered as a concession stand attendant at school football games and as a youth track and field coach.

THE PRAISE

“Without question, Ryan Forsyth was the best cross country athlete in Maryland this season,” said Josh Carroll, head coach at South River (East Edgewater, Md.). “Coaching against him was a huge challenge. In fact, we generally conceded his spot and focused on the rest of the competition because he was that far out in front.”

THE FUTURE: Forsyth remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
