THE WINNER: Javonne Antoine
School: Elizabeth Seton (Bladensburg, Md.)
Athletic achievement: She won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2.5 inches and the triple jump with a meet-record effort of 39 feet, 9 inches at the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships this season, leading the Roadrunners to an eighth consecutive team title. An indoor and outdoor First Team All-Met selection as named by The Washington Post, Antoine’s high jump of 5-2 captured silver. Her triple jump of 40-10 at the Taco Bell Classic ranked as the nation’s No. 9 performance among prep competitors in 2014 at the time of her selection.
Academic excellence: Antoine has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: In addition to donating her time as a youth track instructor, she has volunteered on behalf of her church’s youth ministry.
“Javonne’s hard work and dedication set a great example for our young student athletes here at Seton,” said Elizabeth Seton athletic director Candace Cage. “She is an outstanding leader and plays a tremendous role in the overall success of our program.”
THE FUTURE: Antoine has signed with N.C. State.
