THE WINNER: Jordan Cargile
School: Eastern Tech (Baltimore, Md.)
Athletic achievement: She posted a 25-0 record in the circle along with a 0.42 ERA this past season, leading the Mavericks (25-0) to the Class 2A state title. Cargile struck out 190 batters and walked just six in 117 innings pitched, firing 18 shutouts, including three perfect games. At the plate, the 2013 Baltimore Sun Player of the Year batted .540 with seven doubles, five triples and 40 RBI. She finished the season with a .592 on-base percentage and a .770 slugging percentage.
Academic excellence: Cargile has maintained a 3.26 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of fundraising campaigns to benefit the American Cancer Society and as a youth softball coach.
“I have coached in Baltimore County for six years and have never seen a player like Jordan before,” said Chris Pagliarini, head coach of Randallstown. “She dominates.”
THE FUTURE: Cargile has signed with Delaware.
