KUSA – The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced the finalists for the 2014 NFF High School National Scholar-Athlete Awards today and former Valor Christian running back, Christian McCaffrey, was among the 36 finalists.
The award honors five athletes from different regions for their accomplishments as athletes, scholars and citizens at the high school level.
McCaffrey, who will be playing football for Stanford this year, won four straight state championships during his time at Valor Christian. He was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2013 and 2012 seasons, along with being named the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame High School Male Athlete of the Year last year.
While playing at Valor, McCaffrey set Colorado records for the most points scored (848), career touchdowns (141), all purpose yards (8,845), and single-season all-purpose yards (3,032).
The winners of the award will be announced on the week of Oct. 9 and the five winners will travel to New York City to be honored during the NFF Chapter Awards Luncheon on Dec. 9.
