Meet the 2014 All-Shore Boys Swimming Team

ROBERT WHITACRE, ALEX D’ANNA, MATT ZEBROWSKI, CHRISTOPHER TUCKER

School: Christian Brothers Academy

Event: 200 medley relay

Highlights: The Colts were again among the state’s elite teams and the fleet foursome was a major reason why. The quartet won the Monmouth County title in 1:37.73 and captured the Shore Conference crown in a meet-record 1:37.19. Receiving strong swims from Whitacre, D’Anna, Zebrowski and Tucker, the Colts won the Monmouth County, Shore Conference Class A North, Shore Conference championship meet and NJSIAA Non-Public A state team titles. They captured the latter championship for the fifth straight season.

ZACK MOLLOY

School: Toms River North

Year: Senior

Events: 200 and 100 freestyles

Highlights: Molloy closed his career in style for the Mariners, setting two meet records in the 92nd annual NJSIAA Meet of Champions at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. Molloy captured the 200 in 1:37.61, breaking the 2005 record of 1:38.30, set by St. Joseph of Metuchen’s Bobby Savulich. Molloy sped to a win in the 100 in 44.59, besting the 1991 record of 45.76, set by Delran’s Jason Rosenbaum. The Mariners’ standout helped North to eighth place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.72), swimming a 45.81 lead leg. With Molloy contributing a 20.94 leadoff leg, North was 11th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.48). Molloy blazed to a meet-record 1:37.88 in the Ocean County championship meet. He captured the Shore Conference title in 1:40.86 in the 200. The speedster won the 100 freestyle in a meet-record 46.04 at the Shore Conference meet. Molloy will swim at the NCAA Division I level at Rider University.

JACOB LIMALDI

School: Toms River South

Year: Junior

Event: 100 breaststroke

Highlights: Limaldi captured the Ocean County championship in a meet-record 57.22, breaking the previous record of 59.09 set by Central Regional’s Evan Mahoney in 2012, won the Shore Conference crown in 57.61 and was second at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in 57.08 for the Indians. At the Ocean County championship meet, Limaldi was the anchor leg swimmer as South placed third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.76). Limaldi helped the Indians to second place in the 200 medley relay (1:43.24), swimming the second leg.

MATT GALLENE

School: Freehold

Year: Sophomore

Event: 50 freestyle

Highlights: Gallene won the Monmouth County title in 21.74 and captured the Shore Conference championship in 21.50 for the Patriots. In other Monmouth County meet action. Gallene helped the Colonials to eighth in the 200 medley relay (1:51.74), swimming the anchor leg. Gallene was second in the 100 backstroke (53.22). With Gallene swimming the anchor leg, the Patriots were seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.60).

BEN SMITH

School: Lacey

Year: Senior

Event: 100 butterfly

Highlights: Smith won the Ocean County championship in a meet-record 51.81 breaking the record of 58.03 he set last season, placed first in the Shore Conference meet in 52.16 and was 13th at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in 52.36 for the Lions. In other Ocean County meet highlights, Smith was second in the 50 freestyle (22.38). With Smith swimming the third leg, the Lions placed 11th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:50.17). In other Shore Conference meet action, Smith placed fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.60). He will swim for Rider University.

RYAN O’NEILL

School: Freehold Township

Year: Senior

Event: 500 freestyle

Highlights: O’Neill came out on top at the Monmouth County championship meet (4:40.87) and placed second in the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, hitting the wall in 4:35.01. In other Monmouth County meet action, O’Neill swam the third leg on the Patriots’ 12th-place 200 medley relay team (1:54.85) and won the 500 freestyle (1:41.97).

ZACK MOLLOY, MATT KAZANOWSKY, MIKE CULBERT, JAKE GUTKES

School: Toms River North

Event: 200 freestyle relay

Highlights: The Mariners swam to a meet-record 1:29.84 to win the Ocean County title, placed second at the Shore Conference championship meet in 1:32.32 and placed 11th in the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in 1:3048.

ROB WHITACRE

School: Christian Brothers Academy

Year: Senior

Events: 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley

Highlights: Whitacre often left opponents in his wake. In the backstroke, he captured the Monmouth County championship in 50.73, sped to a meet record (49.59) at the Shore Conference meet and placed second at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions (49.85), trailing Moorestown sophomore Alexander Martin (49.71). Whitacre will swim for the University of Notre Dame. In the individual medley, he won the Monmouth County title in a meet-record 1:37.73, captured the Shore Conference crown in a meet-record 1:52.26 and placed fourth in the 92nd annual NJSIAA Meet of Champions in 1:53.18. Whitacre will swim for the University of Notre Dame.

MATT ZEBROWSKI, CHRISTOPHER TUCKER, RYAN ANDRESEN, ROB WHITACRE

School: Christian Brothers Academy

Event: 400 freestyle relay

Highlights: The Colts won the Monmouth County championship (3:17.59) and captured the Shore Conference title (3:14.96). The foursome helped the Colts to team titles at both meets.
