COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A memorial service was held in Cobb County Wednesday night in honor of a star athlete tragically killed in a weekend crash.

Philip Lutzenkirchen, a star football player at Lassiter High School and Auburn University died along with University of Georgia student and Marietta native Ian Joseph Davis.

The home stands of “The Frank” at Lassiter High were filled to overflowing as friends, fans, and family celebrated the life of Lutzenkirchen.

Philip’s father, his uncle as well as Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs and head football coach Gus Malzahn were among those who spoke at Wednesday’s memorial. They talked of Lutzenkirchen’s character, his big heart, his love for others and their love for him.

Mike Lutzenkirchen, Philip’s father, urged people to buckle up. Philip Lutzenkirchen was not wearing a selt belt in the accident that killed him.

Philip Lutzenkirchen’s funeral will be Thursday in Marietta.
