THE WINNER: Megan Buckingham
School: Northville (Mich.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Mustangs to a 14-0 record entering the Kensington Conference Championship game against Livonia Churchill High, scheduled for May 19. Buckingham scored 12 goals and passed for 13 assists through 14 games. A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Women’s National Team and a club Youth All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, she is ranked as the nation’s No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2014 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Academic excellence: Buckingham has maintained a 3.61 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally at a homeless shelter and food bank and as a youth soccer coach in addition to completing a service-mission trip to Costa Rica.
“Megan Buckingham is by far the best and most complete player I’ve seen this year, bar none, and maybe ever,” said Jeff Neschich, head coach of Plymouth.
THE FUTURE: Buckingham has signed with North Carolina.
