Newly-minted IndyStar Indiana Mr. Basketball Trey Lyles was the leading vote-getter for the Associated Press boys all-state team released on Wednesday.
Lyles, a 6-10 Kentucky recruit, averaged 23.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 blocked shots as a senior for Tech, which won its first state title in school history. Lyles is the school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
Miss Basketball Whitney Jennings of Logansport led the AP girls first team. She was joined by Maura Muensterman of Evansville Mater Dei, Kindell Fincher of Fort Wayne Canterbury and Bedford North Lawrence teammates Jenna Allen and Dominique McBryde.
The boys second team included Butler recruit Tyler Wideman of Lake Central, whose team lost in the Class 4A state title game to Lyles and Tech. Also named were Brebeuf Jesuit’s P.J. Thompson, Carmel’s Zach McRoberts, Tech’s Jeremie Tyler and Jacob Johnson of Mooresville.
On the third team: Evansville Harrison’s Ernie Duncan, Plymouth’s Mack Mercer, Wapahani’s Grant Evans, Davon Dillard of Bowman Academy and Caleb Swanigan of Homestead.
Columbus North’s Ali Patberg, Mt. Vernon’s Erica Moore, Lawrence North’s Lamina Cooper, Evansville Mater Dei’s Tori Schickel and Allison Nash of Speedway were named to the second team. On the third team were Columbus North’s Taylor Goodall, Ashley Campbell of Oregon-Davis, Sydney Buck of Homestead, Ana Owens of Lawrence North and Lauren Whitlatch of Bloomington South.
